i don't even know if other people use livejournal regularly anymore because i know i sure don't.

but anyway, i recorded a new song, something i haven't done in what seems like forever and put it up on purevolume if anyone wants to listen (am i even talking to anybody?) it's the last one. like always, i never feel like ironing out every detail on these shitty recordings so the quality sucks and the timing is often off. enjoy.

Belegost - Nightwalker-Deergod

"Best song to come out of 2006 so far. Of course, it's all about the crescendo, but the key here is how long they carry it for.... Around 9 minutes in, we get our first glimpse of triumph during Nightwalker, and the song slowly bleeds into Deergod. This is like a launchpad into the stratosphere. Slowly, the beast begins to take form around 15 minutes, an unrelenting rocketship with sporadic bursts from the engines. The maniacal drumming begins arond 16:47, complemented by a set of high-fret guitars. Each measure brings us one step more intense. It all comes together at 19:37, crashing with the energy of a full-blown meteor. Highly recommended to pump the volume."

i would highly suggest looking through this guy's livejournal. well, it's more of a music blog actually. he sticks to post-rock bands for the most part but i've found a countless number of new bands to listen to. enjoy.

RIP THE FULLBLAST - 2000-2006

After 6 years, 5 releases, 9 members, 2 fill-ins, hundreds of thousands of kilometers and hopefully a few smiles, The Fullblast is done.

Essentially, our drummer Andy has decided to join our friends Boys Night Out as guitarist. We will spare everyone the details of how things have gone down, but suffice it to say that it surprised us all, and disappointed, we don’t feel like the band can move forward without him. We have all agreed that The Fullblast is to be laid to rest.

We would like to extend our thanks to everyone that has helped us out over the years – our families, our friends, our girlfriends (current or past), bands, our associates, and most importantly, the fans. There aren’t many bands keeping the dream of fast music alive anymore, and to those of you that continue to support punk rock, we thank you.

Our greatest hope is that we’ve inspired something in some of you. Musically, personally or whatever, we hope that we have touched you in some way in the last 6 years. We take great pride in the amount of hard work and passion we’ve devoted to this over the years, and we hope that our legacy is as a band that worked for any and all successes.

It seems almost ironic that this band was born out of a love for the band Lifetime – their passion, their commitment to making a difference in punk rock. Just as they’re resurrecting themselves, The Blast is winding down.

JW – you’re always in our thoughts, and I really wish we could have hit it big for you. You’re one of our greatest inspirations, and we will take our relationship with you through life in whatever we do. We miss you big man.

Unfortunately, it seems like the circumstances surrounding this breakup will not give us the opportunity to have a ‘last show’. We really wish things could have ended in a different manner, allowing us to properly end something that we’ve worked so hard for.

There are no immediate plans for the rest of us in our musical careers, but you can bet that after working for 6 years, none of us are done playing in bands or being involved in the music scene. So keep an eye out for us, you never know where we might pop up.

Once again, thanks to everyone who has helped us out and supported us over the last 6 years. If you’d like to leave some thoughts about the band, or whatever, we’d encourage you to leave us a comment here.

‘Spring 2006 has come, and it’s brought a change. I know that things can’t be the same.’

Love,
Ian, Darran, Brian and Matt -
The artists formerly known as The Fullblast.

so i really didn't do much at all this weekend. friday night, i had a make-up algebra test since the average the first time was somewhere around 30%. the rest of the weekend was basically spent trying to find new music. if you're anything like me, you'd agree that one of the coolest things is discovering a new band that you'll end up following until they break up. i'm not sure how many of the following bands i'll keep up with till then but these are some of the bands/artists i found out about this weekend, most of which are post-rock/instrumental...

Moving Mountains (really spacey/atmospheric with occasional horns and vocals)

September Malevolence (been described as the Swedish Explosions in the Sky)

El Ten Eleven (don't know what to say except this band is two guys making the music it would usually take 4-5 guys to make)

Yndi Halda (their name translates to "enjoy eternal bliss" which i think describes their music quite well)

Josh Moore (plays guitar and sings in Classic Case/ex-singer/guitarist in Beloved. nice rock/folk feel)

check any or all of them out. the first four may be your new studying soundtrack.

i finally get to see Saves the Day...

May 1st, 2006
Ottawa, ONT, CA @ Capital Music Hall
Info: w/ Circa Survive and Special Guest

and to top it off, Moneen is the special guest. I've already seen them a few times and they're just so good live but I've been wanting to see Saves the Day since since i bought Through Being Cool which is one of the best albums I own. Plus they have an ex-Glassjaw guy playing bass now.

so i recorded another song. it's called 'we were born for battle'. as usual, the quality is terrible cause my mic is a piece of shit and the arrangement is pretty simple cause i just don't have the time to put all the effort i want into it. oh well, enough excuses.you can listen here

THE RULES: List five songs that you currently love. It doesn't matter what genre they are from, whether they have words, or even if they're any good, but they must be songs you're really enjoying right now. Post these instructions, the artists, and the songs in your LJ. Then tag five other LJ friends to see what they're listening to.

i've been listening to so much shit recently. was hard to pick five.

1. the fully down - we love to know we're not alone
2. explosions in the sky - day five
3. the pharcyde - soulflower
4. pink floyd - echoes
4. deltron - 3030

does anyone actually try to download the songs other people post? for the curious, this is what my list sounds like:

1. the fully down - technical pop-punk from ottawa. three guitars! new album is insane.
2. eits - instrumental; one of my favourite bands.
3. the pharcyde - fuckin chill hip-hop i guess similar to a tribe called quest/souls of mischief.
4. pink floyd - it's pink floyd, come on.
5. deltron - aka del tha funky homosapien; from heiroglyphics. solid hip-hop. i'm sure you've heard him before.

everyone has probably already been tagged, but if gerrit reads this, go for it.
